In this complex environment, the need for intentional guidance, mentorship, empowerment, and God-centered values has never been greater.
This is why the Africa Youth Rescue Initiative (AYRI) exists.
Founded in 2009 by Amb. Steve Mbugua while still a university student, AYRI began as a simple mission:
to reach young people in colleges, high schools, worship centers, and communities; to encourage and guide them; and to lead them toward lives of purpose and impact.
Today, AYRI has grown into a continental youth empowerment platform touching thousands across Africa through mentorship programs, leadership development, conferences, school outreaches, and community transformation projects.
Our Foundation: The Story of AYRI
The vision for AYRI was born from observing how many young people were gifted, talented, and full of potential—but lacked direction, encouragement, mentorship, and spiritual grounding. Amb. Steve Mbugua saw the need for a movement that could walk with young people, speak into their lives, develop their abilities, and help them rise above limitations.
From the first campus outreach in 2009 to speaking in over 100 learning institutions, hosting youth camps, retreats, workshops, and community programs, AYRI has remained committed to one powerful mission:
